The “Salon dřevostaveb”/ Timber Construction Show, a festival of contemporary wooden architecture, consists of three parts: 1) an exhibition of the best realizations of the Czech and Slovak scene, 2) the publication "Yearbook of Wooden Architecture" and 3) a set of lectures from the field and presentations of architectural studios and projects.
In 2023 the festival is going to take place in Prague (the Center for Architecture and Metropolitan Planning) in April already for the 18th time. The event aims at promoting high quality modern wooden architecture in the Czech and Slovak Republic and at supporting wood constructions not only as a technological or material alternative, but also as an architectural alternative and an alternative of lifestyle. The accompanying Show gathers the most interesting contemporary timber architecture from the Czech and Slovak Republic together into a single exhibition. Thanks to this event, we are glad to connect architects, professionals and the broad public.
Compared to Germany and the Nordic countries the modern timber constructions architecture scene in the Czech and Slovak Republic is relatively small, but steadily developing. However, the wooden structures are mainly represented by family houses now, the interest in multi-storey residential and public buildings from wood increases dramatically in the last few years. Awaited audience are architects, investors and developers.
The Timber Construction Show together with participating domestic and foreign architects and professionals helps to evolve the timber architecture in the Czech and Slovak Republic and also in the Central Europe. We strive to present the world’s best wooden architecture by inviting renowned architects to give lectures and to demonstrate their work. In recent years, we have had many Czech and foreign architects presenting their architecture at the conference. We were pleased to welcome for example White Arkitekter – Carl Bäckstrand (SE), Peter Pichler (IT), Juri Troy (AT), Magdalena Zawada (PL), Andy Breuss (AT), Matthias Hein (AT), Geir Brendeland (NO), Judith Benzer (AT), Janez Martincic (SLO), Reinhard Kropf (NO), Helmut Dietrich (AT), Andrea Deplazes (CH), Einar Jarmund (NO), Antti-Matti Siikala (FIN) and Guy Jamaigne (BE) etc. Each of these presentations was on a high public interest.
Are you an architect or an architectural studio that has recently completed an interesting realization using wood? Every year in mid-September, we publish a call for architects to submit their completed buildings of various scales and purposes and thus become part of the Salon. In addition to the topicality of the implementation, another condition for registration is a high proportion of wood in the load-bearing structure, or its non-traditional use.
The selection then takes place in a curatorial way, which we try, among other things, to achieve the most diverse mosaic of typological species and thus create the most attractive imaginary "showcase" of the field.
We will be happy to provide you with more information and conditions of participation on request.
Are you a company, supplier or manufacturer that produces interesting materials for wooden constructions, for example? Or you supply entire buildings or constructions based on wood and you really stand behind your work
As the Salon has a demanding audience and visitors, as with selections of architectural works, we also pay attention to the right composition for partners and exhibitors. Although we offer several levels of partnership and also forms of presentation, we always prepare, for example, uniform presentation places at the Salon venue, so that the sound of the space is as good as possible.
If you would like to present yourself at this selection event, do not hesitate to contact us. Space for company presentations is limited.
Due to the concept of the Salon, there is also enough space for other non-traditional forms of cooperation and your presentation (eg 3D objects, interesting installations, projections, etc.). Therefore, we do not oppose any ideas in this direction from both architects and partners and exhibitors. You create the salon together with us!
